SPECTATOR BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
Hello Victor Blue Devil Basketball Enthusiasts,
As members of the Victor Community, it's crucial that we uphold high standards of sportsmanship at and during athletic events. Your positive behavior contributes significantly to the overall experience for players, coaches, and fellow spectators alike. Please follow the specified guidelines outlined in the NYSPHSAA Spectator Expectation Regulations, and the Victor Board of Education Policy 5300 - Code of Conduct.
1. Respect Officials: Refrain from criticizing calls made by officials. Trust that the officials are making decisions to the best of their ability, and understand that criticism can be detrimental to the game and undermine their authority. Allow the coaches to address any concerns with the officials.
2. Supportive Engagement: Avoid shouting directions to players on the court. Trust in the coaching staff to provide guidance to the team during gameplay. Cheer for our athletes and offer words of encouragement. Shouting instructions from the bleachers can create confusion, be distracting and disrupt their concentration.
3. Use Positive Language: Refrain from using negative language or derogatory remarks. Maintain a respectful and supportive atmosphere for all participants, regardless of the game's outcome.
4. Representing Victor Community: Remember that your actions and behaviors reflect the entire Victor Community. Show sportsmanship, integrity, and pride in our school and community values. Pursuant to BoE Policy 5300.70: "All visitors are expected to abide by the rules for public conduct on school property contained in this code of conduct." Away Scholastic-Athletic Events are an extension of this Policy, as well.
By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure that our sporting events remain enjoyable and inclusive for everyone involved. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support - Go Devils!
