Parents/Runners,
Cross Country is a sport that requires tremendous dedication, determination and commitment. Preparation this summer will equal success in the fall. To prepare for tryouts and a successful season, summer running is essential. Start with 15 – 25 minute runs, 3 – 4 days each week. If you can’t run 15 minutes, alternate running and walking. Start off easy. Don’t get discouraged. Be consistent. Do this starting mid July.
Tryouts will we held the first day of school, Wednesday, September 9th. To become a member of the team and assure that runners are motivated, prepared and able to fully participate in practices and meets, they must run 2 miles, at their own pace without stopping or walking. Runners who are unable to accomplish this on the first day of practice will not make the team.
For tryouts, students will stay in Sports Study Hall (cafeteria) during Activity Period (2:20 – 2:55). They will then change in the PE locker rooms and I will meet them outside the locker rooms to begin tryouts. Tryouts will end at 4:30 and students should be picked up at the Junior High Cafeteria/Auditorium entrance.
Runners cannot tryout unless an online “Registration” is completed – no exceptions! You will receive instructions on how to access and complete this online process.
I will be sending out more information in the weeks to come. If you have questions, send me email at mbauerlein@rochester.rr.com
Remember, PREPARATION = SUCCESS!
