Tryouts for boys modified basketball will begin on Monday, November 27th and will conclude on Wednesday, November 29th. Tryouts this year will include grades 7-9 from 3:30-5:30 in the Intermediate gym. Student-athletes with last names starting with “A through L” will practice from 3:30-4:30 and players with last names “M through Z” will try out from 4:30-5:30 (these players should go home and come back). This tryout will evaluate overall general basketball skills, such as ball-handling, passing, shooting skills (perimeter and interior), game knowledge, athleticism and overall gameplay skill.
The modified season runs through February 6th, we do not practice or host games over the holiday break. A majority of practices will be 3:15-5:00 for the DII teams and 5:00-7:00 for DI, these practices will utilize the Intermediate gym and ECS gym. The modified season consists of roughly 12 games equally home and away, most games are scheduled for a 5:00 or 5:30 start time.
The goal of tryouts is to establish 3 individual modified teams. One team will compete in division I which is the most competitive level of play which could include competitive level 9th graders and most competitive 8th graders. Two teams will compete in division II which is moderate/Intermediate level of play which normally is more appropriate for at level 7th/8th/9th graders. This is very similar to the tryout process in years past that were referred to as modified “A” and “B”.
If you are interested in trying out for the boys basketball modified teams, please make sure that you are registered (AND CLEARED) on this athletics website. More information will be sent to your parent/guardian as we get closer to the tryout date.
