Back in May 2020, Mr. Siesto (VCS Senior High Principal) and I were talking about if/when we return to School and Athletics in the Fall, what it would look like. The conversation turned to my hair as I haven't cut it since early March (Actually, the day we found out the Ice Hockey NYSPHSAA Championship was postponed was my last haircut). He bet me a Dinosaur BBQ dinner if I let it grow to my shoulders; however, he then sweetened the deal with $100, too. Of course I took the bet - I'm pretty motivated when it comes to a good meal.
On Wednesday (9/16) we had our bi-weekly Principal/AD meeting, and he surprising released me from the bet with the $100, a guaranteed Dinosaur BBQ dinner and a message...
"Now go get your hair cut!" Our internal Judge (SH Secretary; Mrs. Joan Randall) agreed that 'I'm not quite there yet.' Needless to say, I feel as though I haven't fulfilled my end of the bargain (hair isn't to my shoulders), and kids are still not back to FULL in-person Academics or Athletics.
This Pandemic has affected much more than our educational and athletic offerings... I was also thinking about the fact that we are missing out on some of the special events that we've been able to offer in the past and how this affects those organizations, too.
Camp Good Days and Special Times (
https://www.campgooddays.org/) and the Annual High School Football Teddi-Bowl was my first thought, and how impactful this event is for our student-athletes, the children of Camp Good Days and their Families.
As a result, I decided to double up on Mr. Siesto's bet, and give a total of
$200 to Camp Good Days through their online donation site (
https://campgooddays.kindful.com/). I know it's not a lot, but it feels good to give to an organization that needs so much, asks for so little and positively impacts children and their families who are battling cancer or sickle cell anemia.
We only ask that you consider this a
'Time To Grow And Give Back,' as well?!
Thank you to Gary Mervis and the rest of the Camp Good Days and Special Times Organization for all that you do!!!
